Frequently Asked Questions
Which salary components are used for PF calculation?
PF contribution is computed on Basic Salary + Dearness Allowance (DA). Other allowances such as HRA, special allowance, and bonuses are typically excluded from the PF wage base.
What is the statutory PF wage ceiling?
The statutory wage ceiling is ₹15,000 per month. When enabled, mandatory PF contributions are computed on the lower of (Basic + DA) or ₹15,000.
How is the employer contribution split between EPF and EPS?
The employer's 12% contribution is split as: 8.33% goes toward EPS (Employees' Pension Scheme), capped at ₹1,250/month; the remainder (3.67% or more) goes to EPF.
What happens if PF is calculated on the full eligible wage?
When the wage-ceiling option is turned off, employee and employer contributions are computed on the actual (Basic + DA) amount. EPS is still capped at ₹1,250/month per statutory rules.
Is the projected corpus a guaranteed EPFO balance?
No. The projected corpus is an illustrative compound-growth estimate for planning purposes only. Actual EPFO balance depends on official credited interest rates, which are announced annually by the government.
